Sing a new song to the Lord!
Let the whole earth sing to the Lord!
— Psalm 96:1
About Blue Hills Psalm House
The Future Hymnal
For centuries, the church’s greatest songs weren’t manufactured in a studio or for a stage. They were born in the shadows as poems and prayers from the “blue hills” of life that became psalms for the people of God.
“It Is Well with My Soul” was penned by Horatio Spafford after losing his four daughters at sea.
“What a Friend We Have in Jesus” began as a letter Joseph Scriven wrote to comfort his mother after his fiancée drowned.
“I Have Decided to Follow Jesus” came from the words of martyrs in India, later carried across the world by missionaries and evangelists.
These songs remind us that today’s struggles can become the hymns of tomorrow. These songs are often tucked away in prisons and refugee camps, whispered in hospital rooms, prayed on mountaintops, and sung in the quiet faith of missionaries and artists among the marginal places of society.
We exist to uncover and amplify these hidden songs by focusing on:
Missions to Marginal Places - Going where suffering and faith collide, to listen and learn the songs already rising there.
Soul Care for Artists & Missionaries - Creating safe spaces for weary songwriters and missionaries to heal, reflect, and rediscover their voice and missional creativity.
Songwriting & Production - Taking fragile stories and shaping them into songs the church can sing, like psalms of our day and for generations to come.
What Led Us Here
TC & Danielle founded Blue Hills Psalm House out of their own journey as worship leaders, knowing the beauty, burden, and blessing of supplying music to the movement of Jesus. Although worship is far more than a song, what worship leaders, songwriters, and musicians bring to the life of the church through music is invaluable. Like an IV drip of medicine to our veins, worship songs are a conduit of theology and emotions connecting our soul to the heart of God. Songwriting is the opportunity to make others aware of specific truths, address personal experiences of the Lord’s goodness, process emotions, and mobilize the communities we lead.
Simply put, for our churches to continue singing new songs to the Lord, someone has to write them. Although we can be creative in any environment or circumstance, inspired songs are going to come from inspired people. TC & Danielle want to see songwriters experience the friendship of Jesus and have their souls revived, connect to the mission of Jesus which is an unending pool of inspiration, and tell the stories that are discovered along the way. Simply put, Blue Hills Psalm House is a place for the worship leader to find healing, pursue the mission of Jesus with friends, and express gospel-creativity through song.
Blue Hills Psalm House exists to keep the mission of Jesus alive through song.
